1.

Commercially reared chicken can be unusually aggressive, and are often kept in darkened sheds to
prevent them from pecking at each other. A. The birds spent far more of their time — up to a third —
pecking at the inanimate objects in the pens, in contrast to birds in other pens which spent a lot of
time attacking others. B. In low light conditions, they behave less belligerently but are more prone to
ophthalmic disorders and respiratory problems. C. In an experiment, aggressive head-pecking was all
but eliminated among birds in the enriched environment. D. Altering the birds’ environment, by adding
bales of wood-shavings to their pens, can work wonders. 6. Bales could diminish aggressiveness and
reduce injuries; they might even improve productivity since a happy chicken is a productive chicken.

DIRECTION for the question: Answer the question based on the information given in the passage. The
need for knowledge of the constitution and functions, in the concrete, of human nature is great just
because the teacher's attitude to subject matter is so different from that of the pupil. The teacher
presents in actuality what the pupil represents only in posse. That is, the teacher already knows the
things which the student is only learning. Hence the problem of the two is radically unlike. When
engaged in the direct act of teaching, the instructor needs to have subject matter at his FINGERS ends;
his attention should be upon the attitude and response of the pupil. To understand the latter in its
interplay with subject matter is his task, while the pupil's mind, naturally, should be not on itself but on
the topic in hand. Or to state the same point in a somewhat different manner: the teacher should be
occupied not with subject matter in itself but in its interaction with the pupils' present needs and
capacities. Hence simple scholarship is not enough. It can be inferred from the paragraph that:

simple scholarship is lop-sided in its focus
simple scholarship might overlook the subject matter and focus purely on the student
simple scholarship, with a narrow focus, might not place enough emphasis on the student’s needs

simple scholarship will always be lopsided in nature because of its ambiguous stand on problems

Federal efforts to aid minority businesses began in the 1960’s when the Small Business Administration
(SBA) began making federally guaranteed loans and government-sponsored management and
technical assistance available to minority business enterprises. While this program enabled many
minority entrepreneurs to form new businesses, the results were disappointing, since managerial
inexperience, unfavorable locations, and capital shortages led to high failure rates. Even 15 years after
the program was implemented, minority business receipts were not quite two percent of the national
economy’s total receipts. Recently federal policymakers have adopted an approach intended to
accelerate development of the minority business sector by moving away from directly aiding small
minority enterprises and toward supporting larger, growth-oriented minority FIRMS through
intermediary companies. In this approach, large corporations participate in the development of
successful and stable minority businesses by making use of government-sponsored venture capital.
The capital is used by a participating company to establish a Minority Enterprise Small Business
Investment Company or MESBIC. The MESBIC then provides capital and guidance to minority
businesses that have potential to become future suppliers or customers of the sponsoring company.
MESBIC’s are the result of the belief that providing established FIRMS with easier access to relevant
management techniques and more job-speci experience, as well as substantial amounts of capital,
gives those FIRMS a greater opportunity to develop sound business foundations than does simply
making general management experience and small amounts of capital available. Further, since potential
markets for the minority businesses already exist through the sponsoring companies, the minority
businesses face considerably less risk in terms of location and market FLUCTUATION Following early
FINANCIAL and operating problems, sponsoring corporations began to capitalize MESBIC’s far above
the legal minimum of $500,000 in order to generate sufFICIENT income and to sustain the quality of
management needed. MESBIC’s are now emerging as increasingly important financing sources for
minority enterprises. Ironically, MESBIC staffs, which usually consist of Hispanic and Black professionals,
tend to approach investments in minority firms more pragmatically than do many MESBIC directors,
who are usually senior managers from sponsoring corporations. The latter often still think mainly in
terms of the “social responsibility approach” and thus seem to prefer deals that are riskier and less
attractive than normal investment criteria would warrant. Such differences in viewpoint have produced
uneasiness among many minority staff members, who feel that minority entrepreneurs and businesses
should be judged by established business considerations. These staff members believe their point of
view is closer to the original philosophy of MESBIC’s and they are concerned that, unless a more
prudent course is followed, MESBIC directors may revert to policies likely to re-create the
disappointing results of the original SBA approach. Which of the following best states the central idea

The use of MESBICS /

Essay

Write an essay on the below topic as per the directions given
"Role of nuclear weaponry"
Directions
1. Please express your opinion on the given topic in 220-250 words. You advised adhering to the
word limit to avoid any scoring penalty.
2. Common grammatical rules, punctuation should be according to standard English

The time is right for a fundamental rethinking of the role of nuclear weapons in national defense and of the composition of our nuclear forces. The Cold War is over, but it has been replaced by new threats to our national security. Technology, here and abroad, is inexorably advancing, creating both dangers and opportunities for the United States. This paper analyzes the future role of nuclear weapons in national security, describes the roles and limitations of advanced conventional weapons in meeting strategic needs, and suggests several alternate scenarios for future U.S. nuclear forces.

The principal role of nuclear weapons is to deter potential adversaries from an attack on the United States, our allies, or our vital interests. Russia maintains very large strategic and tactical nuclear forces. China is actively modernizing its nuclear arsenal. India and Pakistan have dramatically demonstrated the ability of midlevel technology states to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. There are grave concerns about the future proliferation of nuclear weapons among such countries as North Korea, Iraq, and Iran. The nuclear age is far from over.

Advances in conventional weapons technology suggest that by 2020 precision long-range conventional weapons may be capable of performing some of the missions currently assigned to nuclear weapons. Today, uncertainty in the location of road mobile missiles carrying weapons of mass destruction might require a nuclear weapon for assured destruction. Future real-time imagery and battle management, combined with precision strike long-range missiles, may mean that a conventional weapon could effectively destroy such targets.

Some targets require the energy of a nuclear weapon for their destruction. However, precision targeting can greatly reduce the nuclear yield required to destroy such targets. Only a relatively few targets require high nuclear yields. Advantages of lower yields include reduced collateral damage, arms control advantages to the United States, and the possibility that such weapons could be maintained with higher confidence and at lower cost than our current nuclear arsenal.
